Former striker Paolo Di Canio once again criticised Romelu Lukaku after his performance against Antonio Conte’s Tottenham: ‘It’s difficult to imagine somebody paying €100m to sign him.’

The former Inter striker is not in the form of his life at Stamford Bridge as he has only scored eight goals in 24 appearances across all competitions this term.

The 28-year-old failed to get his name on the scoresheet against Tottenham Hotspur yesterday, putting in a disappointing performance despite Chelsea’s 2-0 win.

“A player like Lukaku must do better in some situations,” Di Canio told Sky Sport Italia.

“He is too soft on the ball, he must do better. Tuchel is giving him opportunities in big games, but Lukaku has to prove something more.

“He was a crucial player for Inter’s title last season, but he had similar issues sometimes.

“Chelsea paid more than €100m to sign Lukaku and must recover him. Right now, it’s difficult to imagine somebody paying €100m to sign him. However, nothing is preventing him from succeeding again in the future.”

Inter don’t seem to be missing Lukaku, having the most prolific attack in Serie A.

Simone Inzaghi’s side has scored 53 goals in 22 league matches this season. The Nerazzurri’s starting strikers Edin Dzeko and Lautaro Martinez have netted 12 goals each.

3 thought on “‘Nobody would pay as much’ Di Canio amis dig at Lukaku again”
  1. This comment section is a joke. It literally doesn’t register comments. You have to write nonsense or a few words for anything to register.

  2. Let’s try again! Lukaku doesn’t move or work hard enough. But his team don’t really play to him either.

  3. Conte’s Inter was built around him, at Chelsea this is obviously not the case. It makes you wonder why they spent so much for him in the first place but good for Inter.
