There is currently no tactician on the Italy bench after Cesare Prandelli resigned in the wake of the World Cup debacle.

New FIGC President Carlo Tavecchio said he spoke with four different potential candidates today, including Antonio Conte, but Di Biagio didn’t say whether he was one of them.

“My name is circulating due to the negative responses that are probably coming in,” Di Biagio told reporters.

“I have been working with the Nazionale at various levels for five years, I am an employee of the Federation and there is a new President.

“Someone will tell me something on what I have to do. I am open and available to all options. Of course right now I am concentrated on an important objective.”

The Azzurrini face Romania in a friendly tomorrow at 17.30 UK time (16.30 GMT), their final test ahead of September’s European Under-21 Championship qualifiers against Serbia and Cyprus.

“This game can help us to improve our movement and fluidity of our football. We have to prove with facts that we have grown,” continued Di Biagio.

“It is a match that can help us understand our condition going into the two September ties. We were a step behind Serbia at the start of qualifying, but now we are getting there.

“We are a motivated group of lads who want the same objective. We know it won’t be easy, but we hope to achieve the same result that we’re all dreaming of.”
