Gerard Deulofeu explains why he has signed a new contract with Udinese to June 2026 and gives an update on his return from injury.

The Spaniard was coming to the end of his previous deal at the end of this season, but announced his extension during a press conference.

“You’ve known for a while that I’ve been saying how happy I am to be in Udine. My experience in life and in football taught me that I need to value where I am. I’m happy here, I’m doing well, I appreciate the city, the club, and that is what’s important.

“We need to take Udinese where it deserves to be and where I think we can be.”

The 29-year-old had an excellent start to last season with two goals and six assists in 16 Serie A appearances, but then suffered a serious knee injury in mid-November 2022.

“Fortunately, I feel good now. I haven’t set a date for my return, but if my body keeps reacting like this, it will be soon. I will give my all to be ready as soon as possible, but otherwise I will try to help the team. You don’t always have to be a protagonist. I want to be one of the many captains in this side.”
