According to Sky Sport Italia, Milan have finalised the details of the contract extension with Rafael Leao, including a salary of €5m plus bonuses and a €175m release clause.

Director Paolo Maldini confirmed last night after the Champions League semi-final defeat to Inter that they really were down to the most minor details, but that essentially “the deal is done.”

It is now reported that the Portugal international will put pen to paper on the contract next week, probably on Monday May 22, to hold him to the San Siro giants until June 2028.

The salary demands from Leao had been circa €7m per season, but it seems he has finally agreed wages worth €5m per season plus various performance-related bonuses.

As for the release clause, that has been raised to €175m, which ought to put off clubs like Chelsea, Manchester United, Liverpool and PSG from pursuing the 23-year-old.

A breakthrough was found after Lille agreed to pay off a substantial part of the sum Leao owed to previous club Sporting CP for unilateral breach of contract in 2018.

Milan purchased Leao from Lille for €29.5m in 2019.
