Colombian goalkeeper Devis Vasquez had his Milan medical today and signed the contract, with his former club Guaraní revealing the cost of the operation and concerns over an upcoming international commitment.
The Rossoneri decided they needed more coverage in goal after Mike Maignan’s calf injury took far longer than expected to heal.
Ciprian Tatarusanu was not considered particularly reliable as back-up, so Vasquez was brought in on a permanent transfer from Guaraní.
“Circa a month and a half ago, we received news that Vasquez had been called up by the Colombia national team,” Guaraní President Emilio Daher told Sportitalia.
“This turned the spotlight on him and Milan contacted us two weeks ago to ask for the price-tag. The lad played 25 games for Guaraní and it’s probable the call-up for Colombia was linked with the Milan interest.
“Milan paid $250,000 to Guaraní, while the other $250,000 goes to the player. Milan paid the release clause in his contract. We only ever spoke with Milan via agents.”
Vasquez underwent his medical today and was spotted driving into and then leaving the Casa Milan offices, where he put pen to paper on the contract.
According to Sportitalia, Salernitana had also approached Vasquez over the last few weeks, but instead opted to sign Mexico international veteran goalkeeper Guillermo Ochoa as a free agent from Club America.
There are some concerns for Milan, because that game Vasquez was called up for is a friendly against the USA on January 28 in California.
That means the club risks having to release their new signing straight away for international duty.

Why not l0an Cragno for 6 months and get Sportiello for next season? Surely would’ve make more sense? I am very much baffled with this. Monza should be easier to deal with, considering our close relationship? I know Cragno isn’t even a starter at Monza, how could he be starter for us? No, but he’d be a decent backup for 6 months at the very least, and would be hungry to prove himself.
And on top of that, we will use 1 non-EU spot here. I think he must’ve impressed the scout greatly then. Hopefully this works out. Forza Milan!
