Italy star Jorginho broke to tears inside the dressing room at the Stadio Barbera last night and according to Il Corriere dello Sport, the Chelsea playmaker feels more guilty than his teammates.

The former Napoli and Hellas Verona star fluffed two spot-kicks in the qualification group games against Switzerland. The Azzurri failed to win any of the two matches against the Swiss and were forced to get their spot for Qatar 2022 through the play-offs. It must be said that Jorginho’s errors were not the only costly ones for the Azzurri.

Italy miss out on World Cup: players break down in tears

Jorginho struggled to fight back the tears during his post-match interviews last night and according to Il Corriere dello Sport he was even more desperate inside the dressing room and felt more guilty than his teammates.

During his chat with Rai Sport, he admitted that the remembrance of those two spot-kicks would haunt him for the rest of his life. Jorginho has missed the last three penalty kicks for the Azzurri, while he has a perfect record for Chelsea in 2021-22 with ten goals from ten penalties.

  1. So he should. He has cost Italy!! A nation, a proud nation. Yes it’s not only him but he must shoulder a lot of the blame. You have broken the hearts of millions.

  2. Not only the 2 PK’s. He was at fault for the North Macedonia goal.

    – NM Goal Kick.

    – Bastoni misses a aerial duel so it gets flicked on. (I was worried about him as well).

    – NM player takes it off his midriff and pushes it forward.

    – Jorginho slows down and raises his hand protesting that it hit the NM players hand. INSTEAD OF RUNNING ALONGSIDE HIM and ultimately in front of him.

    – With a chance for a shot, NM player hits the corner.

    – Perfectly placed, yes. But from distance so Donnarumma should have had it.

Jorginho again. He’s done us here. Instead of playing to the whistle and letting VAR do it’s job, he raised his hand and stopped playing.

    This is sickening.

  3. Normally i wouldn’t say it’s someones fault fully but he must take the vast majority of the blame, all things considered.

Also, Mancini ( like most italian coaches after they win a tournie) is way too loyal to the following

Barella: Good player but with no real strengths. A jack of all trades. not indespensible
Insigne: Carpari and Grifo have been far better than him this year, same iwth zaccagni. two were not called up and zaccagni not even on the bench.

Florenzi: An average right back. Calabria? Does he have an issue with him? Calabria is the starter, younger OVER florenzi at milan

Immobile: If there’s ever been a good excuse to play a false 9, it’s this guy. He’s got 0 bottle, maybe the worst i’ve seen for italy

Jorginho: Even without the penalty misses, he’s not some indispensable player.

Playing him and verratti together gives us 0 punch in midfield

Never call up bonucci, chiellini or acerbi again.

  5. Baggio shouldered the blame for Italy losing the 94 World Cup for his entire career (which was completely UNjustified!) after missing one penalty, despite taking Italy to that final with his 5 goals.
Yes I think Jorginho should feel more guilt. Three penalty misses in a row that almost cost them the Euro title, and did cost them another World Cup. And unless it’s from the spot he never produces goals. If you think you are deserving of “the best player in the world”, then you need to play like it.

  6. Jorginho should have been replaced at half-time or at least after around 55 minutes.
On top of disastrous, pathetic rigore failures against Switzerland that should have out Italy through to WC as group winners, he has been ineffective for Italia most of the time since Euro semi-finals.
Don’t want to see him in the Azzurri shirt ever again.

Immobile, Insigne, Acerbi, Emerson should also be replaced now.

Berardi was another big disappointment whose weak, poor shooting wasted some of the best chances last night too.

  7. To be honest, let’s not say Emerson was bad yesterday. He wasn’t.

This isn’t on him. He’s not Spina but I had no problems Emerson’s game versus MKD.

  8. Italy’s midfield is its great strength and needs to be maximised. Jorginho handicaps us because it stops the midfield from being more dynamic than what it is. Playing Verratti and Jorginho is useless as they are similar, but Verratti is the better option and more dynamic. Mids like Pellegrini, Sensi, Locatelli and Pessina are far more dynamic than Jorginho and all contribute goals. Barella also needs to have the finger pointed at because besides the goal against Belgium in the Euros, he has been very ineffective, and has looked completely cooked. He should not be a walk up start either. An best that we don’t talk about the sterile front line of Insigne, Immobile and Berardi.
