Roma striker Mattia Destro admits he’s thinking about the World Cup after recovering from injury.

The youngster missed the first three months of the season after returning from the European Under-21 Championship with a knee problem.

He has scored two in two League games since for the high-flying capital outfit – one against Fiorentina and one versus Milan.

“I’m really attached to the national side, but I firstly have to recover my best form,” he told the Gazzetta dello Sport. “I have to take things one step at a time.

“Being part of a tandem attack at the World Cup with Mario Balotelli and Giuseppe Rossi would be a dream. Balotelli is the best Italian attacker.

“Those two players will definitely be there, while I’m worried that having too many objectives will affect what I’m doing.”

Destro was first called up by Cesare Prandelli on the eve of Euro 2012, but he didn’t make the final squad.

The man born in March 1991 has one goal in four games for his country so far.

Italy have just one friendly lined up so far before Brazil 2014 when they will play Spain on March 5.
