France coach Didier Deschamps believes Lucas and Theo Hernandez ‘can play together’ for the national team.

Milan full-back Theo Hernandez was called up for the first time during the last international break and made his debut for France in the 2-0 win over Finland in the World Cup Qualifiers last month.

He is back in the squad for the UEFA Nations League game against Belgium this week and Deschamps is sure the 23-year-old can play with his older brother Lucas.

Deschamps: ‘Theo has attacking abilities’

Lucas Hernandez plies his trade at Bayern Munich in the German Bundesliga and is capped 28 times by Les Bleus.

The 25-year-old played twice at the Euros this summer, when France were eliminated by Switzerland in the round of 16.

“Lucas has the ability to play in the centre or out wide,” Deschamps said at a press conference. “They can play together.

“But it’s not certain that one pushed the other towards a different position. Lucas played out wide with us, but he’s more trained to play in the middle.”

The World Cup winners are playing for a place in the Final of the Nations League against the winner of Italy vs. Spain in the other semi-final.
