Deschamps: ‘Leave Pogba alone’

Didier Deschamps defends Paul Pogba from criticism – “I don’t expect him to score two or three goals in every game”.

The Juventus midfielder is regarded as one of the hottest talents in Europe, but has scored just five goals in his 28 France caps.

“Paul doesn’t leave anyone indifferent,” Deschamps, Coach of Les Bleus, noted in his Press conference ahead of the game against Russia.

“He set the bar very high from the start. It’s always expected of him to be decisive and spectacular, but he’s still a midfielder in the making.

“If he doesn’t do something decisive, that doesn’t mean he’s not useful to the team. I don’t expect him to score two or three goals in every game.

“He’s someone who has a lot of quality, and the expectation is down to his abilities.

“After the World Cup there were some matches which Paul didn’t start in. That’s not to punish him, it happened to others as well.

“He can bring a lot to the team, and his qualities aren’t in doubt. Occasionally I’ll make a different choice.”
