“The players knew what they had to do,” Deschamps told Mediaset Premium. “It was a complicated game and we didn’t have many chances, as we could’ve done better going forward. Loic Remy was not at his best.
“This is something extraordinary that we have achieved here. Inter remain a great team and we are a small club, so it is hugely satisfying. After some very difficult moments in Ligue 1, tonight is a great moment of joy.”
OM had lost their last four games without scoring a single goal, but managed to knock the Nerazzurri out to reach the Champions League quarter-finals.
“We were coming off a very negative period with three injured players and those who returned exhausted from the Africa Cup of Nations. My squad is not made of 25 champions like Inter, but we wanted to fight.
“I always tell my men never to give up, but we also did well technically today. We had a lot of possession and that’s important away from home. We knew that if we managed to score a goal then, saving a cataclysmic event, we would qualify.”
