Italy’s 2006 World Cup-winning captain and recent Udinese coach Fabio Cannavaro is due to speak with representatives from Spanish side Deportivo La Coruña over their managerial vacancy, according to reports in Spain and Italy.
Cannavaro linked with vacant Deportivo La Coruña job
According to reports from Relevo and Gianluca Di Marzio, Deportivo are due to hold talks with Cannavaro on Saturday. These will reportedly be initial talks, as no offer or agreement has been put on the table yet.
Cannavaro has held two head coach roles in Europe previously: With Udinese at the end of the 2023-24 season, and with Benevento in Serie B in 2022-23. He also has experiences in Asia with Guangzhou Evergrande, Al-Nassr, Tianjin Quanjian and the China national team.
Deportivo find themselves in a tricky spot a quarter of the way into the 2024-25 season. They currently sit in 20th place in the Segunda Division, three positions off the bottom, with 10 points from their opening 12 games of the campaign.
Imanol Idiakez, who guided Deportivo to promotion in 2023-24, was let go from his position as head coach on October 28 as a result of the poor start to the season.
