Sampdoria defender Fabio Depaoli doesn’t want to leave the Blucerchiati and ‘convince’ coach Roberto D’Aversa ahead of 2021-22.

The 24-year-old moved on loan to Atalanta last October, but his deal with the Nerazzurri was terminated in January and the full-back went to Benevento.

“Last season I started at Atalanta, playing in the Champions Legaue, and ended up fighting relegation with Benevento,” Depaoli told Il Secolo XIX.

“I have always given my all for the shirt I wore. But my thoughts went to Sampdoria, with a view to return.”

He stressed he wants to stay at Samp and push for a place in the starting line-up at the Marassi, and his current deal with the Ligurians expires in June 2024.

“Mentally it was helpful and now it’s a bit like coming home for me. I sincerely hope not to move away from here. I hope to do well in this period, to develop with [Roberto] D’Aversa, convince him, and then we’ll see what happens.”
