Napoli midfielder Diego Demme apologised to his teammate Zambo Anguissa after accusing him of causing his injury.

The German midfielder has been ruled out for over a month with a foot problem suffered in training earlier this week. It emerged that the injury had been caused by a reckless tackle of his teammate André Zambo Anguissa who Demme accused in an Instagram story on Saturday.

“I am always positive, but I got injured because somebody doesn’t know how to control himself. It’s impossible to change the past, but we can change the future,” he wrote, without mentioning the ex-Fulham man.

Demme, 30, has now apologised in another Instagram story, where, once again, he didn’t mention his teammate.

“I was wrong to put something like that online, we have spoken and we are all united,” said the midfielder.

“The most important thing is the team and today we play our first match at home. Forza Napoli sempre.”

Demme has played 82 games with the Partenopei, scoring five goals. He joined the team in a €12m deal from RB Leipzig in January 2020.

Anguissa has entered his second season at the Stadio Maradona after completing a permanent move in the summer.

Luciano Spalletti’s men host Monza at the Stadio Maradona at 17.30 UK time today. They won their Serie A opener 5-2 away at Hellas Verona last week.
