There are many calls for Alessandro Del Piero to return to Juventus in a directorial role following the resignation of the Board of Directors, but similarly to Paolo Maldini at Milan, he wants guarantees of influence first.

The club is in turmoil after President Andrea Agnelli and the entire board tended their resignation on Monday evening.

They left amid an investigation into financial irregularities and even potential fraud, so former player Del Piero was tipped to return to Turin in a new role.

However, according to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Alex is hesitating before accepting a call from John Elkann, who runs Juve’s parent company Exor.

Like Maldini at Milan, Del Piero does not want to simply be a figurehead representing a glorious past or a mascot for the fans to cheer on.

He wants some genuine influence and control over the future of the club, particularly with regards to transfer strategy.

Del Piero is currently living in Los Angeles and working as a television pundit for Sky Sport Italia and beIN Sport.
