Juventus legend Alessandro Del Piero, visited Villarreal’s training ground yesterday and explained why the Old Lady is not necessarily favourite against the Yellow Submarine tonight.

The Bianconeri face Villarreal in the first leg of the Champions League Round at 20.00 UK time.

Del Piero, the best scorer in Juventus’ history and the player with the most appearances in a black and white shirt, visited the training ground of the Old Lady’s opponents yesterday.

He also previewed the game in an interview published in today’s edition of La Gazzetta dello Sport newspaper.

“Juventus’ potential is massive, but they have evident limits that must be overtaken,” the former No.10 said.

“The amount of points in Serie A has decreased every season in the last four years and this must mean something, regardless of the coaches. The quality of the team, especially in midfield, is not the same as in the golden era.

“If you don’t have that, you have to make up for it, playing well and showing Juventus’ mentality.

“The quarter-finals cannot be the minimum target for a team like Juventus,” Del Piero continued.

“Juventus are the absolute favourite if you consider the quality of the team, but looking at results and performances this season, then the values are much more similar.

“Juventus must avoid one mistake, which is not being on the same level as Villarreal in terms of intensity.”
