Alessandro Del Piero believes Juventus would have been involved in the title race had they beaten Inter last week, while the Nerazzurri remain the favourite to win the Scudetto.

The Nerazzurri have won two successive Serie A games for the first time in 2022 and were the only team in the top three to seal a victory last weekend. Thye are now two points behind their city rivals Milan, who can leapfrog if they win their game in hand against Bologna later this month.

“For what they’ve shown this season, Inter are still the favourite,” Del Piero told Sky Sport Italia.

“The Champions League exit was acceptable as they beat Liverpool away. They’ve created a lot and Edin Dzeko has contributed to as many goals as Romelu Lukaku.

“The figures prove the superiority of the Nerazzurri. They have the most balanced and depth team. They have already won, so some players know specific dynamics. That’s the real advantage in the final part of the season.”

The defending Serie A champions collected back-to-back victories against Juventus and Hellas Verona and seem to be back on track after a tough start to the year. Last week’s win over Juventus in Turin was a statement victory that allowed Simone Inzaghi’s boys to kick the Old Lady out of the title race.

“If Juventus had beaten Inter, now they would be involved in this fascinating race. They would have been there,” added Del Piero, who also commented on Napoli‘s collapse at the Stadio Maradona against Fiorentina.

“Generally, Napoli feel the pressure coming from their position in the table,” said the 2006 Italy World Cup winner.

“Perhaps, in terms of personality and character, they still don’t have what it takes to take off. They have highs and lows as soon as they reach the top.

“Being the favourite creates pressure, tension and responsibility. Napoli have always played well, winning incredible games, but then, they’ve always collapsed when they seemed close. That’s quite incredible.”
