There were many doubts over whether the 36-year-old captain would be offered a contract renewal at the end of this season.

“President Andrea Agnelli and I met a few times since the start of the year,” read a statement on the club website.

“In these meetings, the club confirmed they want to continue the professional relationship made up of respect and faith that has characterised all my years in the Bianconeri jersey.

“I am therefore confident regarding the outcome of the planned meeting.”

It suggests that Del Piero will put pen to paper on a new contract within the next few days, although it remains to be seen whether it will be a ‘pay as you play' deal.

‘Pinturicchio' joined Juve as an 18-year-old in 1993 and has shattered club records for appearances and goals.
