La Joya had looked as if he was leaving Turin over the summer, with Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur ready to break the bank, but instead won his place in the squad and became their best-performing forward.

“Dybala has already worn the captain’s armband a few times and if that happened, it’s because at Juventus they consider him to be worthy of it,” Del Piero told Sky Sport Italia.

“Considering what I know of him personally, his performances on the field and off, I think that Paulo has really matured in recent months. The best show of that was how he dealt with what happened over the summer, his reaction emblematic of how much he has grown.

“We knew he was someone who loves to work and today I feel he has become a complete player.”

Del Piero has left the Bianconeri behind, but remains a firm fan of the team where he spent most of his career.

“I supported Juventus as a child, I won everything that I could win, including the Serie B title during a difficult time for the club, getting it back to the top before leaving.

“That final match against Atalanta was the culmination and it goes beyond winning trophies. I have no words to describe the embrace of my teammates and the people in the stadium that day.

“My love for Juventus is unique and will never end.”
