Group C begins at 17.00 UK time on Sunday in Gdansk with the reigning World and European champions taking no chances.
“We are ready to start the tournament tomorrow,” said del Bosque in his press conference.
“We don't want a repeat of the experience we had in South Africa two years ago when we lost the first game.
“We want to open well. In a group of four teams the first game is fundamental.”
Italy have changed their system to 3-5-2, but del Bosque is keeping his cards close to his chest.
“We are very clear as to who will start the game but the players won't know until tomorrow.
“There are always doubts when you have to put together a starting XI, especially when everyone wants to play. We have stupendous players in our squad.
“Since Cesare Prandelli took over, Italy have changed their style of football and are very strong. We have prepared well and are ready for every possible situation.”
