Inter star Mauro Icardi has scored his first goal for Argentina in his eighth appearance at senior level.

The 25-year-old hitman found the back of the net within the opening minute of this evening’s friendly against Mexico.

It was a well-taken give-and-go with a teammate, cut inside between two defenders and placed the finish into the far bottom corner.

Icardi made his senior debut for Argentina in a seven-minute World Cup qualifier against Uruguay on October 16, 2013.

Icardi made his senior debut for Argentina in a seven-minute World Cup qualifier against Uruguay on October 16, 2013.

He was then largely ignored for four years, despite regularly banging goals in for Sampdoria and then Inter in Serie A.

Maurito finally got his comeback and first start on September 1, 2017, and it was again with Uruguay as the opponents.

He provided an assist in the 1-1 draw with Venezuela five days later, went off the radar again going into the 2018 World Cup and was left out of the squad.

Icardi has been given rather more attention by new Coach Lionel Scaloni, playing him in four of the last five Argentina matches.

The former Barcelona man has never been short of goals at club level, as this season alone he has 10 in 13 games between Serie A and the Champions League.

At Serie A level, Icardi has scored 117 goals in just 199 games for Samp and Inter.

Just playing for Inter in all competition, the 25-year-old has netted 117 times in 195 appearances.
