There have been complaints from Lazio fans that Weston McKennie pulled the ball out of play in the build-up to the opening Juventus goal.

McKennie struggled to keep the ball from completely crossing the touchline before the Manuel Locatelli cross found Dusan Vlahovic to score at the near post.

Supporters online protested that the USMNT midfielder had not been able to prevent the ball going out of play and the goal should therefore be disallowed.

As shown by the images provided by DAZN, it was certainly tight, but at least a tiny portion of the ball seemed to be on the line.

It is not dissimilar to the issue that caused consternation for Japan’s goal at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, as that too seemed to be from some angles out of play.

However, FIFA proved with a video that the camera angles can be deceptive when it comes to the ball being over the line.

There was a VAR check on the Juventus goal in the booth and they cleared it.
