This is a rescheduled Week 25 fixture that was postponed in February due to the coronavirus pandemic, which hit the city of Bergamo worse than any other in Italy.
“We’re going to play in Bergamo with respect and to show our affection for those who suffered so much in recent months,” said De Zerbi in his press conference.
“Having said that, we’ll give Atalanta a battle from the first minute, as they are one of most difficult opponents to face in this league. Our fitness levels won’t be optimal after such a long lay-off, and we can expect some pretty banal errors, but must retain that motivation.”
It has been a remarkable campaign for Atalanta, who qualified for the Champions League quarter-finals and are currently well clear in fourth place.
“Atalanta set the example for smaller clubs with ambition and we must share their courage, as we too have a young, strong squad that can improve. It’s a big test and even if it goes badly, we can still learn and grow, as long as we show no fear.”
