Roberto De Zerbi has emerged as one of the top candidates to take over at Manchester United should Erik ten Hag be dismissed, Alfredo Pedulla reports.

The Red Devils struggled to impress under the Dutch coach this season, despite winning the FA Cup over rivals Manchester City, and are now seriously considering sacking the tactician in the coming weeks, wanting a fresh project under the guidance of minority owners INEOS.

De Zerbi is available in the coaching market after deciding to leave Brighton after two years at the helm, having disagreed with the club’s management regarding transfer market policy. He is not expected to return to Serie A, with the possible options all focusing on other targets.

De Zerbi on shortlist

Pedulla details how Manchester United have been in contact with De Zerbi as they explore possible candidates to replace Ten Hag in the dugout, putting him on a shortlist alongside two or three others. He is considered a popular option, owing to his electric attacking football.

First, the Red Devils need to make a final decision regarding the future of Ten Hag, but should he be dismissed then De Zerbi could soon be seen in the dugout at Old Trafford.
