“Aside from eighth, seventh or sixth place, I look to the rapport, to what these players, the club and the fans have given me. It’s not our final position that will make the difference,” De Zerbi said after Sassuolo’s 1-0 win over Sampdoria on Saturday.
“Clearly, it’s complicated to do better than we are right now. I can assure you it would be reductive to choose whether I stay or not based on our position in the table.”
De Zerbi could join former Milan and Juventus defender Mattia De Sciglio who appears on the verge of completing a permanent move to the Groupama Stadium after one season on loan from the Old Lady.
Peter Bosz is also being linked with the Lyon job.
