The Moroccan midfielder picked up his second booking in the space of 15 minutes – when he lifted his shirt over his head in celebration of scoring the opening goal.
The 27-year-old hadn’t fully removed his shirt, placing only part of it over his face, but the referee stuck to the letter of the law.
“I feel sorry for Bourabia, as it was his first goal in Serie A, and up until that point he had been playing really well,” the former Benevento tactician told Sky Sport Italia.
“We still don’t understand why he got the first yellow card, while the red definitely affected the rest of the game for us.
“We didn’t get to play the way we had prepared for during the week, although I am happy with our performance.
“We had the lead and we would have like to have played the match with the same number of players. I don’t really want to talk about the refereeing decisions, but I didn’t like the officiating at all.”
Sassuolo can certainly silence any suggestions they didn’t push Toro all the way.
“It’s true that we have nothing more to play for, but we trained hard this week, we came here to pick up points, not act as a sparring partner."
