Juventus had been the absolute favourites, with Manchester City and Paris Saint-Germain among those also interested in the 23-year-old.

His transfer value of circa €40m has made him a little too expensive for most Italian clubs, including Juve, who’d try to offer €20m plus some player exchanges.

However, De Zerbi’s move to Shakhtar opens up a different scenario, with reports of a €35m cash offer plus a contract worth €3m per season for Locatelli.

A great deal could also depend on who the Juventus coach will be next season and whether they qualify for the Champions League.
