Inter defender Stefan de Vrij is set to return after an injury, but La Gazzetta dello Sport reports his future at the club remains up in the air as the two parties haven’t yet discussed a contract extension.

The former Lazio star spent several weeks on the sidelines with an ankle injury, but he will return to action when Inter face Cagliari at San Siro tomorrow.

The Dutchman sees his current deal expire in June 2023, so Inter must make a decision about his future in the coming months.

The pink paper reports Inter and De Vrij’s agent Mino Raiola haven’t yet met to discuss a contract extension, but the club need to have clear ideas about the defender’s future in springtime to plan their future.

Over the summer, there were several reports that Raiola was pushing for the defender’s Premier League move.

Antonio Conte’s appointment as Tottenham coach has boosted rumours of De Vrij’s possible transfer to England with Spurs among the leading candidates to secure his services.

Fabio Paratici is also an admirer of the 29-year-old who joined Inter as a free agent from Lazio in 2018.

Inter have recently extended with Alessandro Bastoni, Lautaro Martinez and Nicolò Barella and are in talks with Marcelo Brozovic.

The Croat has also been linked with a move to North London and his current deal with the Serie A champions expires in June 2022.
