Inter centre-back Stefan de Vrij should finally be back against Calgliari this weekend, but Joaquin Correa will be re-assessed early next week.

Coach Simone Inzaghi should have De Vrij back in the defensive trident when the Nerazzurri return to Serie A against Cagliari.

De Vrij has been out for a month and the other defenders have rotated to fill the void during the Dutch defender’s absence.

Milan Skriniar and Alessandro Bastoni have both played in the central position of the defensive trident but they should all return to their usual positions when the Holland international return this weekend.

De Vrij: ‘Conte did not contact me’

He was called up for the match in Madrid and is now hoping to play his first game since picking up an injury during international duty with the Netherlands.

La Gazzetta dello Sport explains the defensive crisis is about to end at the Beneamata, as Aleksandar Kolarov and Andrea Ranocchia are also expected to be available for the weekend.

Matteo Darmian and Correa are still struggling with issues, but Denzel Dumfries should be fine, despite being replaced at half-time against Real Madrid on Tuesday.

The report reveals Correa will be re-assessed next week, to further understand the recovery times of the Argentine.
