Lazio defender Stefan De Vrij could go under the knife to correct a recurring knee problem.

The Dutch international was injured while representing his country last month, but said this week he hoped to be available to face Sassuolo on Sunday.

The Dutch international was injured while representing his country last month, but said this week he hoped to be available to face Sassuolo on Sunday.

However, following tests yesterday, the knee is still swollen, and De Vrij will not be able to return to training with the Biancocelesti squad.

LaLazioSiamoNoi believes that the Aquile medical staff and the player could now decide to have arthroscopic surgery to correct the problem.

It’s a recurring issue, as De Vrij had meniscus surgery in Holland at the age of 18, and suffered a knee injury at the end of last season.

The decision is therefore whether to risk several months on the sidelines to fix the problem once and for all, or try to press on and hope the situation improves.
