Stefan De Vrij has informed his representatives that he is ready to commit to staying at Inter until 2025 and is close to signing a new contract to make it official.

The 31-year-old’s current deal with the Nerazzurri is set to expire at the end of the 2022-23 season, but De Vrij is ready to extend his stay at San Siro for at least another two years.

According to Gazzetta dello Sport, the terms offered to the Dutchman will see him take home around €4m per season, which is the same as what he earns on his current deal.

Landing De Vrij’s signature is seen as a coup for Inter, who risked losing him as well as the outgoing Milan Skriniar for free in the summer, which would have left a gaping hole in the Nerazzurri defensive line.

In fact, De Vrij has already been free to negotiate with other clubs since January given that he has less than six months left on his contract.

Gazzetta reports that there have been interested parties across Europe, particularly in the Premier League.

Inter’s senior management team are said to consider De Vrij to be a crucial figure in the dressing room, even if he has not been able to contribute as much this season as he has done in previous years.

All that is left now is for a meeting to be arranged and for De Vrij to put pen to paper to make the deal official.
