Stefan de Vrij has been linked with the likes of Manchester United, Liverpool, Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur, but assures ‘Inter is my home’ and he no longer wants the Premier League.

The Dutch centre-back moved from Feyenoord to Lazio in 2014 and then on to Inter as a free agent in the summer of 2018.

Looking back over his career to when he was still in the Netherlands, a young De Vrij had told local reporters he saw Serie A as a stepping stone to the Premier League.

However, when they did come calling in recent years, he had no particular interest in following that train of thought to England.

“I never said that the Premier League was my dream. Things went the way they did and in my view there is no point looking back now. Italy is my home, Inter is my home,” the 32-year-old told Sky Sport Italia pundit Gianluca Di Marzio.

Serie A really made De Vrij

De Vrij is part of the Inter squad that just won the Scudetto, as well as two editions of the Coppa Italia and three consecutive Italian Super Cups under coach Simone Inzaghi.

“We are very proud and happy to have achieved the title. I’ve been at Inter for six years and won the Scudetto twice. This is my home and being able to celebrate it like that with the fans, winning the derby, was an unforgettable experience.”

They also reached the Champions League Final last season, beaten 1-0 by Manchester City.
