Lazio’s orthopaedic consultant has revealed that Stefan De Vrij played under ‘unsuitable conditions’ for the Netherlands, leading to his injury.

The centre-back was removed at half-time with a knee injury during his country’s 3-0 defeat to Turkey on Sunday, and has been ruled out for Sunday’s clash with Udinese.

“This morning we put Stefan de Vrij through an MRI scan, which showed a pain in the outer area of the left knee,” consultant Stefano Lovati said to Lazio Style Radio.
