Stefan de Vrij is overjoyed to be reunited with his former Lazio coach Simone Inzaghi at Inter. ‘He has a lot to offer us.’

The Nerazzurri won the Scudetto under Antonio Conte, but he terminated his contract by mutual consent due to the downsizing of their budget and ambitions.

Inzaghi was brought in after his five years at Lazio, a coach that De Vrij knows well from his own time at the Stadio Olimpico.

“I am very happy at Inzaghi’s arrival, as we worked very well together at Lazio,” the defender told Sky Sport Italia.

“He is a smart coach and has a lot to offer us. He brings a great atmosphere so everyone is ready to give their best.”

Like Conte, Inzaghi works with a 3-5-2 formation, but expectations are high after the Serie A victory.

“It’s wonderful to be the Scudetto winners and we enjoyed it, but a new season begins and we want to confirm our status. We can’t wait, as we are a winning team now and must remember that.

“I think it’s an advantage that Inzaghi has a similar tactical philosophy to Conte, because the squad is more or less untouched and we hope to pick up where we left off.

“Personally, I can improve a great deal and must make my voice heard more when leading the defence.”
