De Silvestri joined Bologna as a free agent from Torino in August and this is the fourth time in his career that he plays under the Serbian coach.

“At Torino I had a good time, but when I knew Sinisa’s Bologna really wanted me, I did everything I could to join him,” he told La Gazzetta dello Sport.

Mihajlovic fought against leukaemia one year ago and had to spend many months on the sidelienes coaching his team while having chemotherapy.

"With his attitude towards the illness he made us reflect on life," De Silvestri said.

"Sinisa is very focused on our attitude, but I am not Mihajlovic’s guy,” he insisted.

“Between us there is a relationship of which I am proud. It’s hard for a coach and a player to find themselves in the same team for four times in one career, but twice he came where I was, so we’re 2-2.

“I still feel very much as a football player and here I already understood two things. First: I arrived in a super organized club. Second: there are a lot of young players with huge potential here”.

The former Fiorentina and Torino defender has just begun a new chapter of his career and has already set a personal target.

“I want to reach more than 400 presences in A and for the future I see myself more in the jacket and tie than on the pitch.”
