Mattia De Sciglio revealed the biggest jokers in the Italy squad, Paolo Maldini inspiration and why he’ll never be a Coach.

“Reaching the Euros was a source of great pride, as Antonio Conte showed great faith in me and I will aim to repay him,” said the Milan talent in a video Q&A.

“It’s my first Euros, so I am extremely excited and feeling the emotion of the occasion. You have to prove how much you care about this shirt when representing your country.”

The Milan full-back was asked if he knew he looked like Tobey Maguire.

“Some of my teammates did tell me I resembled Peter Parker, so ok. Why am I so handsome? Er, thanks to Mum and Dad.

“Who is the biggest joker of the squad? There are several, above all Gigi Buffon, Salvatore Sirigu, Daniele De Rossi and Leo Bonucci.

“We train, then return to the hotel where there are areas to relax in so we can play games, including a Playstation, or a big screen TV to watch the other matches.

“The Coach prepares us for the game by ensuring we work every single day and think of the importance of every match. For example, on paper Romania were not favourites against France, but forced them to the last minute.”

His good looks were almost wrecked by a nasty facial injury, as a stud caught him on the face, forcing several stitches.

“It’s a scar I will carry forever, but every time I see it, I’ll remember a difficult moment I overcame with great determination.”

De Sciglio can play on the right or left, as full-back or wing-back, but did he take on other roles?

“As a child I played centre-back and was there until the age of 16, then was transformed into a full-back. I’ve always been inspired by Maldini, as on top of being one of the best defenders of all time, he was also captain of the team I supported since childhood.

“Who is the best player of all time? I only saw Diego Maradona and Pele on video, but it’s a real fight now between Cristiano Ronaldo and Leo Messi.”

Would he like to be a Coach when he retires?

“Absolutely not. I just don’t have the personality for it.”
