Filippo Galli has reflected with pride on seeing Mattia De Sciglio and Matteo Darmian make Italy’s World Cup squad.

Since retirement, Galli has worked with Milan’s youth academy, which recently has produced De Sciglio and was where Darmian developed, before he came to the fore later with Torino.

To see the duo make Cesare Prandelli’s squad is a source of great satisfaction for the 51-year-old.

“De Sciglio is our pride and joy, I have seen him grow in our academy,” Galli has told the Gazzetta dello Sport today.

“He has a great personality and not even he knows how much stronger he can be. He comes from a troubled season in terms of injuries, but arrives fresh and charged for the World Cup.

“Darmian needed a different course, away, but I remember an old chat with Adriano Galliani, where years ago he asked me who I would bet on.

“I said without delay Darmian. He is always intelligent and skilled at reading defensive situations, now he has improved a lot on his path.

“These players are two arrows, with the future in front of them, and two respectable guys.”
