Morgan De Sanctis said Roma players “cannot deny responsibility” for the disastrous Coppa Italia exit to Spezia.
The Serie B side earned a 0-0 draw at the Stadio Olimpico, eventually winning 4-2 on penalties, to reach the quarter-finals.
“We cannot deny responsibility,” the goalkeeper told Roma TV.
“We struggled, as we have done a lot recently, to create chances that could make life difficult for Spezia. If we consider our recent performances, against BATE the justification was that a draw could still qualify us and we did create something, at Bologna the pitch was awful, at Napoli we created little but defended well.
“Today we defended well but continue to not be sharp and not threaten our opponents. Compliments to Spezia, but it’s obvious we should’ve done more.”
Roma are without a win since beating Lazio on November 8 and the goals have simply dried up.
“Everyone has to put in something more to gain confidence, calm and sharpness. We must all take more responsibility, not limit ourselves to doing the bare minimum, do something more to help the team.
“In terms of attacking, and I am not just referring to the strikers, in recent games we have struggled to make any kind of impact.
“Since we returned from the break for international duty there has been a definite downturn. Our last three games were goalless draws and it’s evident we have to do more going forward.”
