De Sanctis ‘Napoli must focus’

Napoli must concentrate if they are to beat Atalanta on Saturday evening, is the message Morgan De Sanctis is keen to get across.

The Partenopei travel to Bergamo keen to make up lost ground in the title race – from the opening 11 rounds of Serie A, Napoli’s 15 points collected sees them already seven behind League leaders Juventus” data-scaytid=”6″>Juventus and Lazio” data-scaytid=”7″>Lazio.

Similarly, if it wasn’t for the summer’s six-point penalty handed to Atalanta for their part in 2010-11’s Serie B betting scandal, the Orobici would be four points and three places above Napoli.

The Azzurri’s position, in goalkeeper De Sanctis’ eyes, comes as a result of poor concentration in games, something he is appealing to his teammates to improve for this weekend’s trip to the Stadio Atleti Azzurri d’Italia.

“It is clear that there has been difficulty in balancing between two competitions at the start of the season, it is not easy.

“But since we have already stumbled upon some unfavourable situations, we are preparing mentally and do not want to make any more mistakes.

“Bergamo is a difficult trip because Atalanta are a terrific team. We must hold a high level of concentration because they are a great team.”

De Sanctis was then asked by Sky Sport Italia of his return to Cesare Prandelli’s Italy squad and debate over which goalkeepers should go to Euro 2012.

“It is a discussion that pleases me. I had been finished with the national team after the World Cup, for one year I had not been a part of it, but after every performance I was asked about a possible return.

“There was a chance to come back because of the unfortunate injury to [Emiliano] Viviano. But now I see promotions for other goalkeepers that are currently not in the national team, but who do you take out?

“For now, there is [Gianluigi] Buffon, De Sanctis and [Salvatore] Sirigu. I regularly hear of promotions from Coaches and journalists, but, they also need to specify the name of individuals who they would then take out.

“Being second to Buffon is simple, Gigi for a number of factors is the number one. A goalkeeper is only in trouble when the first signs of failure show.”
