“I’m optimistic that he’ll stay,” the new owner noted. “Director general Franco Baldini is looking after the situation personally.

“I can’t say too much because negotiations are continuing, but I’m confident and I have faith in the ability of Baldini.”

The Italian international midfielder, brought up through the outfit’s youth system, is currently tied to the Stadio Olimpico outfit until June 2012.

Manchester City boss Roberto Mancini this morning revealed that his side would be keen on signing him should he become available in the summer.
