Daniele De Rossi is set to get his first coaching role as he is expected to replace Fabio Caserta at Benevento in Serie B.

The 2006 Italy World Cup winner is currently serving as one of Roberto Mancini’s assistants with Italy but has been dreaming of his first coaching role for a long time.

According to Il Corriere dello Sport, De Rossi is finally ready for his first managerial role.

The Rome-based paper reports that the 39-year-old will replace Benevento coach Caserta who will hold a press conference at noon local time today (11 am in the UK).

Caserta has been in charge of the Streghe for one season but is expected to be sacked after just two games in the new campaign.

Benevento lost their opening Serie B game at home against Cosenza on Sunday and according to Il Corriere dello Sport, Caserta will be sacked over the weekend regardless of the result of tomorrow’s home game against Genoa.

Other sources, such as Sky Sport Italia, claim De Rossi is a ‘concrete option’ for Benevento, although the club hasn’t yet made a decision.

If the Roma legend gets the job after Benevento-Genoa, he’ll make his debut against another 2006 Italy World Cup winner: Fabio Grosso, who is in charge of Frosinone.
