According to Sky Sport Italia, Roma are set to lock coach Daniele De Rossi down to a new three-year contract after he took over from Jose Mourinho in January.

He was already a club legend as a midfielder and took over the captaincy after Francesco Totti retired.

De Rossi returned to the Stadio Olimpico as a coach in mid-January when Mourinho was sacked and revitalised their campaign.

They reached the Europa League semi-final and sixth place in Serie A, although that could potentially still be worth a spot in the Champions League if Atalanta finish fifth.

However, if La Dea were to end the season fourth or third in Serie A, then the extra slot for winning the Europa League would not be opened up for Roma.

De Rossi spent a lifetime with Roma

When De Rossi arrived, he only signed on as interim manager to the end of the season, but quickly won over the fans and players.

It proved enough to earn him not just a short-term contract, but one for another three years at the Stadio Olimpico.
