Daniele De Rossi’s SPAL lost 1-0 against Genoa in Coppa Italia, so the former Roma midfielder won’t meet the Giallorossi in the Round of 16.

The Rossoblu have earned a spot in the Coppa Italia Round of 16 thanks to a 1-0 win at Marassi today. They will meet José Mourinho’s Roma in the next round in January.

Albert Gudmundsson scored the winner from the spot at the end of the first half, ending SPAL’s run in the competition.

De Rossi was appointed by the Serie B side last week, replacing Roberto Venturato, and collected a 0-0 draw away at Cittadella in his first-ever game in the dug-out.

De Rossi will make his home debut at SPAL on Saturday against Cosenza.

More Coppa Italia games are coming up this week. Torino host Serie B side Cittadella tonight, while tomorrow, Parma and Bari meet at the Stadio Ennio Tardini, Monza will visit Udinese and Spezia will face Brescia at home.

Thursday is the day of Cremonese-Modena, Sampdoria-Ascoli and BolognaCagliari.
