Daniele De Rossi has admitted that he is just as curious as the Roma supporters to see how Matias Soule and Paulo Dybala play together, as the Argentine duo will start for the Giallorossi in Sunday evening’s Serie A clash against Empoli.

De Rossi briefly spoke to Sky Sport Italia prior to kick-off against Empoli at the Stadio Olimpico.

A dramatic transfer saga unfolded over the last week, which saw Dybala originally accept a massive €75m contract offer from Saudi Pro League side Al-Qadsiah, only to go back on his decision and stay on with Roma.

Now he is set to stay on in Rome for at least another season, Dybala reclaims his spot in the starting line-up alongside Soule and behind new striker Artem Dovbyk.

De Rossi ‘curious’ to see how Dybala and Soule play together for Roma

“We are also curious, because they like to play in the same areas,” De Rossi told Sky.

“We can leave Soule out on the right and put Dybala behind the striker. Today we chose to leave him out on one side, and moved Mati to the left.”

Asked if he has learned anything from the Dybala transfer saga, De Rossi replied: “I don’t know, it hasn’t told me anything. I knew that if we went forwards with that deal, there would have been big controversies. I am the coach, and this is what I have to do.”

There were, of course, questions about future activity on the transfer market as well. De Rossi was not willing to give too much away.

He was asked whether the team that lines up tonight will change much after the close of the transfer window next week.

“I don’t know, let’s focus on today’s match, because I want to go to Juventus’s stadium with three points to welcome our new signings, which is more important. Then we’ll see what happens.”
