Cagliari are looking around for a new coach after their relegation to Serie B, including Aurelio Andreazzoli, Pippo Inzaghi and Daniele De Rossi.
The Sardinians are forced to rebuild after dropping down into the second division and are currently without a tactician, having already fired Walter Mazzarri.
According to Sky Sport Italia, options on the table include Inzaghi – who is also targeted by Ascoli – and former Empoli coach Andreazzoli.
Sportitalia have another intriguing candidate, as De Rossi is eager to begin his solo management career after experiences working as part of Roberto Mancini’s Italy staff.
The former Roma and Boca Juniors midfielder turns 39 next month and retired in January 2020.
It is not the first time that Cagliari President Tommaso Giulini has suggested giving De Rossi an opportunity to start the next step of his career in Calcio.
Starting from Serie B could be a chance for De Rossi to work at a big club, without the pressure of the top flight.
