The midfielder spoke to Cronache di Spogliatoio about his current and future status in Bergamo.

“It’s difficult, very difficult. There’s a part of you that wants to win trophies, maybe the Scudetto, but then on the other hand I really like Bergamo, my family is happy here, the club is reliable.

“And then again you think it’s possible to make the step up to an historic big club like Inter or Juventus. But Atalanta are getting into the first four every season now. I am an international, I’m happy and feel important.

“I’d like to end my career with Atalanta, but you never know in football. As things stand, this is the idea.”

De Roon is known for his amusing social media presence, although some Milan fans did not appreciate it when he mocked Ibrahimovic following Atalanta’s victory at San Siro.

“I don’t know what’ll happen when we meet up again. Maybe he’ll give me a slap, and I’ll probably deserve it! I’ll take that.”
