Ever-present Atalanta midfielder Marten De Roon has confirmed that he will not be available to participate in EURO 2024 this summer after the injury he sustained in the 1-0 loss to Juventus in the Coppa Italia final.

Though Atalanta were crowned Europa League champions last week, it has been a heartbreaking end of the season for De Roon, who picked up a knee injury against Juventus and was therefore not available for the 3-0 victory over Bayer Leverkusen.

The exact recovery period for the 33-year-old has not yet been disclosed, but the player himself has confirmed that the Euros will come too soon.

De Roon confirms Euro 2024 absence

“I can’t imagine I’ve had a week in my career, or in my life, that has had so many ups and downs. Lost the Coppa Italia, couldn’t play the final, win the Europa League. In that last euphoric state, I spent a lot of time with the medical staff but it turns out I can’t play the Euros,” De Roon wrote in an post on Instagram.

“I will get over it, I will watch the squad and my friends as a fan, but for now it’s a very tough day. Hup Holland, hup.”
