Atalanta midfielder Marten de Roon had the perfect take on the situation when their Champions League match with Villarreal was postponed due to heavy snow.

The fixture was meant to kick off in Bergamo this evening at 20.00 GMT, but after an initial delay by 20 minutes, another pitch inspection prompted the two captains and referee Anthony Taylor to reschedule it for tomorrow.

It will now begin at the Gewiss Stadium on Thursday at 18.00 GMT (19.00 local time).

Netherlands international De Roon is always amusing on social media and he naturally had to comment on the bizarre situation.

“Me, Zapata and Koopmeiners on our way to kickoff,” he wrote with an image of three men skiing.

Hopefully the snow will have melted away by the time the game begins tomorrow, because a win would send Atalanta through to the Champions League Round of 16 for the third year in a row.
