“It is an honour for me to play for Juventus and I’d love to think that one day I could become captain of this side,” De Ligt told Sky Sport Italia.

“That’s not important right now, seeing as there are already four captains in the squad who have been playing here for many years. The important thing for me is to play well, help the team and then the coach will decide who is captain, but it’s not my objective right now.”

The Old Lady had won the Scudetto for nine consecutive campaigns, but are now fighting desperately for a place in the top four.

“We need to give more to win games, especially at this stage of the season. We need more courage when we have the ball, a stronger mentality, and to defend better as a team.

“I also feel disappointed that I’ve only scored one goal so far this season, as I want to improve that area of my game. We need to all do better, for example on corners those who make the blocks and those who get their heads to the ball.”
