The Dutch centre-back first dislocated his right shoulder back in late 2019 and it has been repeatedly causing him problems ever since.

The operation was postponed until the season had come to a close, but with Juve’s elimination from the Champions League, he can go under the knife.

According to Tuttosport, this type of surgery will keep him out of action for approximately two-to-three months.

Another reason for the delay was the total lack of alternatives in the Bianconeri squad, as Giorgio Chiellini and Merih Demiral were also dealing with long-term injuries.

Demiral has now fully recovered from a ruptured ACL, while Chiellini is getting closer to a return.
