Matthijs de Ligt made his Bayern Munich debut in a pre-season friendly against Wayne Rooney’s DC United yesterday, making his first appearance for the Bavarians after his move from Juventus.

The 22-year-old Dutch centre back completed a €77m total move from Turin to Munich earlier this week, signing a five-year contract with the German giants. After a three-year spell with Juventus, De Ligt was ready for a new challenge and a deal was completed fairly quickly. To replace him, the Bianconeri picked up Gleison Bremer from Torino.

De Ligt made his debut for Bayern yesterday, coming on early in the second half. He scored just two minutes later, giving him something to smile about in his first game for the Bavarian side.

It wasn’t a perfect evening, however, as he later had to come off due to a slight muscle issue. Both Julian Nagelsmann and De Ligt himself downplayed the issue after the match, noting that it was “nothing special.”

Bayern ultimately won the friendly match 6-2, with goals from Stadio Mane, Marcel Sabitzer, Serge Gnabry, Joshua Zirkzee and Thomas Muller.

  1. Wow I never saw him score a goal like that for Juve. Even though it was against minnow opposition in a friendly, it seems he has already been partially cured since freeing himself of Padlock Max. Going to a bigger club surrounded by better players and a superior structure might do him the world of good.
